Presentation of SPARK in 4º Congrés Dones, Ciència i Tecnologia WSCITECH25
Women, Science, and Technology Congress (WSCITECH)
Date: 6 and 7 March 2025
Place: Vapor Universitari de Terrassa
Participating as a speaker at the Women, Science, and Technology Congress (WSCITECH) was an insightful experience. This year’s theme, “Women and Artificial Intelligence: Challenges and Debates from an Intersectional Gender Perspective,” highlighted the ongoing discussions about bias in AI, representation in technology, and ethical considerations in different fields.
In the health panel, I presented my research on gamification in healthcare for hyper-personalized interventions in breast cancer patients, using AI and behavioural data. The discussion focused on the role of AI in improving patient engagement and enhancing healthcare outcomes, while also addressing the gender biases in medical data and research. There was consensus on the importance of diverse AI development teams and the need to design fair and inclusive models for healthcare applications.
Other panels explored the impact of AI on communication and digital ethics, including concerns about bias in AI-generated images and content moderation. Discussions emphasized the need for ethical AI regulations to prevent harmful applications and ensure responsible use of AI technologies. A key takeaway from the congress was the underrepresentation of women in AI-related fields, with only 22% of AI professionals being women.
Additionally, the next day, I took the opportunity to buy Cristina Aranda’s book! :)
NOTE: Espero ayudar a tu sueño de “forrarte” :P.
Overall, the congress provided valuable insights into the intersection of AI, gender, and ethics, highlighting both challenges and opportunities in the field.
